Membership FAQ
When does my membership start and expire?
All AES memberships expire on June 30 each year. If you join between July 1 and June 30, your membership is active immediately but will expire on the upcoming June 30 - the same date as every other member.
If I join in, say, October, do I still get 12 months?
No. The listed prices (e.g., $1,550 for Active membership) cover a full 12-month cycle that runs July 1 - June 30. Joining mid-year means you pay the full price but receive only the months remaining in the current cycle. To get the complete 12 months, join or renew in July.
When should I renew?
Renew on or shortly after July 1 to receive a full 12 months of benefits. Renewing later in the year still costs the full listed price, but covers only the remainder of the current cycle.
Why does my membership expire on June 30 instead of one year from the day I join?
Your membership fee includes more than just year-round member benefits - it also covers complimentary registration to the AES Annual Scientific Meeting, held each February. Because the meeting takes place in February, AES aligns every membership to the same fixed cycle (July 1 - June 30) so that all members are covered for that year's meeting. If memberships rolled individually from each member's join date, members who joined later in the year could end up paying for a meeting cycle that had already passed. The fixed cycle guarantees that every member's fee covers the full lead-up to, and attendance at, one Annual Scientific Meeting - plus all the other member benefits - before their renewal comes due.
